About Feasibility Shield

A materials intelligence tool built by designers, for designers.

What is Feasibility Shield?

Feasibility Shield is a multi-disciplinary materials selection and manufacturing feasibility engine designed for product designers, industrial engineers, and material scientists. It helps evaluate and rank the best combinations of material and manufacturing process for any given product brief.

The engine considers volume production economics, tooling CapEx amortization, environmental hazards, cosmetic requirements, and industry-specific certification constraints — all in real time.

Who is this for?

How does the engine work?

The calculator runs a rule-based compatibility pipeline for each material-process combination in our database:

  1. Volume Check: Verifies that target production volume doesn't make tooling amortization economically unviable.
  2. Discipline & Environment Check: Filters out combinations that fail industry-specific constraints (e.g., brittle ceramics under impact load, bare steel in marine environments).
  3. Cost & Budget Check: Computes total unit cost (tooling amort + per-part production), then locks out combinations that exceed the designer's Target Unit Price.
  4. Scoring: Feasible combinations are ranked by a composite score factoring unit cost and volume range fit. The top result is flagged as the Golden Path recommendation.
